Eating Disorders

Common types of eating disorders are anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder (BED). There are
treatments that can help.
Anorexia nervosa- Anorexia is an eating disorder and a serious mental health condition. People who
have anorexia try to keep their weight as low as possible. They do this by not eating enough food or
exercising too much, or both. This can make them very ill because they start to starve.

Men and women of any age can get anorexia, but it’s most common in young women and usually
starts in the mid-teens.
Bulimia nervosa- is an eating disorder and mental health condition. It is when someone is binge
eating, then making themselves vomit or using laxatives to purge the food from their body.
Binge eating disorder (BED) involves regularly eating large portions of food all at once until you feel
uncomfortably full. This is often followed by feelings of upset or guilt.
